children in Conflict Zone Should be Protected and Not Targeted, Says UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has strongly condemned the murder of 15 children in Ituri province, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
According to a UNICEF report released today in New York, the children killed in the attack were among the 50 people killed and more than 30 others injured on Tuesday night at a site for internally displaced people in Savo, Ituri Province.

“This atrocity is a clear indication of the level of violence in Ituri state that is targeting the most vulnerable children,” said UNICEF Representative in the DRC Edouard Beigbeder.

The latest incident is said to have targeted a Dani refugee camp in Ituri province in eastern DRC.

UNICEF is adamant that children in conflict zone be protected and not targeted.
