A Kenyan student is fighting for his life in a hospital in the coastal city of Mombasa after being flogged for eating five chapatis instead of the school’s allotted one.

This is the latest in a string of beatings by teachers accused of using a hosepipe on the boy, but the school administration has blamed the situation on his classmates.

According to videos and photographs cited by local media, the 13-year-old boy has black marks on his body.

His parents claim that the school did not notify them of the situation until a week later when the boy became seriously ill.

Doctors at the hospital say the boy has an acute kidney injury and injuries to his genitals.

Following an investigation into the incident, local education officials closed the school.
